Questions about:
WEB DESIGN
Why should I hire a website design firm?
Hiring a web site designer will help you save precious time so that you can
concentrate on your business, your vocation, or your organization. Even the best
web site software takes time to learn. Many are expensive. Some limit creativity
and are not compatible with each other. A web design firm will manage the
creation of your web site so that it is done quickly, efficiently and
professionally.
Do I need to hire a "local" web site design firm?
We create web sites for local and nationwide clients. By using the Internet,
email and the telephone, it is possible for us to communicate effectively with
you in any location.
How long does it take to have a web site designed?
The turnaround time is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity
of your site design, and when we receive your content (i.e photos, images and
text).
I have a web site, but I'd like it to look more professional. Can you help?
Yes. A web design specialist will examine your current site, discuss your goals,
and redesign your site.
Can I start with a 3-5 page web site now and add more pages later?
Absolutely. We create each website with scalability in mind. We can add pages to
your site at anytime.
I want you to design my web site. Now what do I do?

WEB MAINTENANCE
What is site maintenance?
Maintenance is a fee paid monthly to keep your site updated with new content
that you provide. Most high traffic websites have new content updated regularly.
Fresh content keeps visitors coming back.
What is the difference between web design and web maintenance?
Web design is the actual creation of the initial web site. Web maintenance is
the updating and changing of content on that site. The web design contract is
separate from the web maintenance or webmaster agreement. However, if you expect
your site to change frequently, a web maintenance agreement is highly
recommended.
DOMAIN NAMES and HOSTING
What is a domain name?
A domain name is a specific web site address that you choose and register on a
yearly basis. Our domain name is "NeedWebDesign.com".
What domain name should I choose?
This depends on how you are going to use it. If you are going to be telling
people over the phone, choose one that is easy to say and spell out loud. Above
all, I would choose one that is memorable and not confusing.
What is web hosting?
Web hosting is a monthly fee that you pay to have your site accessible on the
Internet.
I currently have another web host and would like to switch over to
NeedWebDesign.com hosting. How do I do this?
Please fill out our web host transfer form, here. We will transfer your domain
name along with all of your existing web sites content. We will call you to
request the username and password for your domain name as well as FTP so that we
can complete the transfer FREE of charge.
Can I choose you to design my site and use my own web hosting?
Yes.
ECOMMERCE
What are my options for e-commerce or online donations?
You can take payments online in a number of ways. The first is PayPal - this an
inexpensive way to start taking payments quickly, especially if you don't have a
merchant account. With PayPal, your visitors can pay you with a credit card or
by sending a payment from their checking account (echeck). PayPal provides easy
shopping cart integration and many other free services that are helpful to sites
that are starting out. They charge 2.9% +$.30 per transaction and have no
start-up fees. The downsides are that PayPal is not a very customizable
solution, and it can have a “start-up” feel. However, this is changing and many
mainstream sites are now accepting PayPal. PayPal is inexpensive both because
there are no merchant account of payment gateway fees.
Finally, there is the option of creating a full e-commerce solution. This
involves many different components - a merchant account from a bank, a payment
gateway service that allows you to accept payments into your merchant account
from your website (this is often bundled with the merchant account), a shopping
cart or payment script that integrates with your payment gateway, and certain
elements of the server environment like having an SSL certificate for security
purposes. Full e-commerce is more expensive and time-consuming to develop than
PayPal, but it can be integrated into your site for a truly seamless payment
experience. It can also save you money in the long run if you are doing a high
volume of sales because the transaction fee is usually about 2.4% + $.28.
SEARCH ENGINES
How do I get my website listed on search engines, especially Google?
Modern search engines like to find your site naturally, through links to your
site from other sites. Google especially relies on your incoming links to
determine your popularity and relevance. We can optimize, submit and track your
search engine ranking for keywords.
Why can't I find my web site in the search engines?
Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require
several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their
directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search
Engines database update schedule. Watch your server traffic logs for visiting
spiders. We suggest that you sign up for our monthly search engine optimization,
submission, and reporting. Learn More
